A Greggs could be coming to Peterborough after a recent planning application was approved.

Proposals to convert More Cars Ltd on Padholme Road East into retail/cafe use was granted by Peterborough City Council on Thursday, September 19.

It could join Peterborough's six other Greggs stores on Bridge Street, Long Causeway, in Queensgate, Serpentine Green, Bretton Centre and the Orton Centre.

A design and access statement published on behalf of the applicants said the unit will be "operated as a restaurant" with "some takeaway facilities".

Hot and cold food will be served at the site with customers given the option to takeaway.

It added: "The proposal seeks to provide flexibility to the operation to allow a higher level of takeaway, whilst retaining a restaurant seating for those wishing to dine in.

"The area could accommodate up to 20 people internally with a array of seating layouts could be achieved easily.

"This allows customers to dine in, or takeaway, at the customers choice through the introduction of a strong recognised brand it will help strengthen the retail offer in this location and offer more choice to the local area of Fengate."

Ten jobs will be created under the plans with two full time and eight part time.

Greggs began advertising for new team members earlier this year, with the application deadline closing on July 20.

A spokesperson for Greggs told Peterborough Matters: "Greggs is always looking into new shop locations.

"While we are unable to confirm anything at the moment, we will share any information in due course.”
