Three schools in Peterborough have been recognised for their commitment to learning outside the classroom.

The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) has given the Learning Outside the Classroom Mark to 16 secondary and special schools run by the Meridian Trust.

Of these, three are in Peterborough.

Greater Peterborough UTC got the bronze award, NeneGate School got silver, and Nene Park Academy achieved the top gold level.

The LOtC mark is given by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, a charity that encourages education beyond the classroom.

The charity helps schools and other organisations give children the chance to benefit from quality learning experiences outside the traditional classroom setting.

Dr Anne Hunt, chief executive of the council for LOtC, said: “Achieving the LOtC Mark reflects Meridian Trust’s commitment to ‘extending the boundaries’ and providing opportunities for every young person to succeed by embedding a full range of learning outside the classroom experiences into each school’s unique approach.

"I congratulate all the schools on achieving the award, and I look forward to hearing how they continue to benefit from taking their teaching and learning above and beyond.”

Martin Campbell, executive principal of Meridian Trust, said: “We are incredibly proud of the 16 secondary and special schools that have achieved the prestigious LOtC Mark so far.

"This recognition reflects our deep commitment to providing our pupils with enriching learning experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom spaces.

"The awards across all schools highlight the dedication of our staff and students to embracing innovative and memorable approaches to education that prepare young people for success in the future."

The Council for LOtC will hold the National LOtC Conference at Weldon Village Academy on November 11, with more than 300 education professionals set to attend.
