An inquest into the death of a 26-year-old man will be held at Peterborough Town Hall from today (Monday September 23).
In March 2022 Declan Morrison suffered a traumatic brain injury whilst detained and fell into a coma at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridgeshire.
He underwent emergency surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, but died on 2 April 2022 after he did not recover from surgery and a decision was made to remove his life support.
Declan had learning disability, autism, bipolar disorder and ADHD. He was non-verbal and had complex needs.
He was detained by police and taken to Fulbourn Hospital on 9 March 2022 following an episode in his supported accommodation at Yewdale where he had been living from May 2021.
The inquest into Declan’s death - which is scheduled to last for two weeks with a jury - will examine the suitability of Declan’s accommodation, treatment and care, and the circumstances that led to his death.
Evidence is due to be given by witnesses from interested persons including NHS Trusts, private healthcare providers, paramedics, Cambridgeshire police, Cambridge County Council, and medical experts. CCTV footage of Declan whilst he was in secure accommodation will be shown.
Declan’s parents, Phylanopia and Graeme Morrison and his sister Kaitlyn Morrison are represented by Saoirse Kerrigan and Yvonne Kestler, solicitors at law firm Leigh Day. Sophy Miles, barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, is instructed.
