The UK's first home safety kits are being supplied across a central area of Peterborough to help tackle neighbourhood crime.
Introduced by the City's Action Group for Neighbourhood Watch, hundreds of kits are to be supplied free of charge to households within the popular Neighbourhood Watch networks in the Park ward.
The kits funded by the Safer Streets Fund and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambs.
This new initiative, believed to be the first in the country, aims to enhance home security by providing special window and door locks, security marking equipment, a cash/jewellery safe, 24-hour timers and more.
Residents receiving these kits are being asked to security mark all their televisions, laptops, computers, ipads, mobile phones, hand tools, and garden equipment and anything that could be stolen.
Police carry special search equipment to check property for the identifiable marks.
Alan Paul, head of neighbourhood watch for the Peterborough area, said: "We are pleased to lead on this exciting new initiative and hope to increase the community's confidence levels by reducing neighbourhood crime."
"Working closely with the police, the Peterborough Neighbourhood Watch membership has increased this year and is proving to be making a real difference."
