Celebrations have been in full swing at Hampton Grove in Hampton Vale, near Peterborough after one of its residents reached her centenary.

Betty Everest was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla in recognition of her landmark birthday.

A party was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef.

When asked what Betty’s wishes were for her birthday, it was to visit Hunstanton and have lunch with her friends at the Salvation Army Day Centre that she used to attend in Peterborough.

Hampton Grove staff helped to arrange this with the Salvation Army, and on the day of her birthday the Salvation Army band also came to play for her.

Family and friends also came to celebrate this special birthday with her.

Betty has been married twice and has two children, one son and one daughter. She has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty said: "I was so pleased to see them because I don't get to see them very often. It is lovely to have a family."

Betty has resided at Hampton Grove since August 2022. She was born in Hartford in 1924.

As a job Betty used to analyse signals intercepted from European embassies at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes during World War Two.

Her job was to look out for key words and then flag the signals up to higher levels of the park, then went on to work for the Hertfordshire City Council as a short hand typist.

Ewa Drzewicka, general manager at Hampton Grove added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone.

"Betty is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”
