A steam locomotive's bank holiday unveiling has been delayed due to unforeseen engineering setbacks.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust explained that the 60163 Tornado's stoking could not be completed on time to fulfil their summer commitment.
Initial optimism with the engine's firing up soon dwindled, resulting in an insufficient timeline to guarantee its effective operation.
Hopes of speeding up the process were dashed when unexpectedly, the scheduled boiler inspection didn't take place last week.
These checks are now set for completion this week, with the engine currently producing a full steam pressure of 250psi.
Cold-starting requirements before travelling created a detrimental timing crunch, offering no buffer period for troubleshooting minor hitch-ups.
It risked disappointing visitors at the Nene Valley Railway (NVR) in the event of last-minute glitches.
Therefore, in mutual agreement with NVR, a decision was made to shift the locomotive's performance closer to Loughborough's engineering facility, rescheduling the NVR outing to October.
This move frees up four workdays initially earmarked for transport, accelerating the Tornado’s return to main track assignments.
Not procuring enough mileage before transferring to NVR was viewed as a potential risk factor.

Apologies have been expressed to enthusiasts who intended to witness the Tornado this bank holiday.
They have been encouraged to relish the steam spectacle in October half term.
Following last week's work on the engine's injectors, static steam testing is currently taking place at the Great Central Railway (GCR). Once the boiler inspector gives the go-ahead, the locomotive will commence mileage accrual at the GCR, fast reaching up to 60mph.
NVR expressed disappointment over the postponement acknowledging that external circumstances led to this predicament.
They reassured customers of a spectacular visit from the Tornado between October 17 and 27.
