Giant inflatable squid tentacles have appeared on top of Peterborough Cathedral's iconic Norman arch.

The dramatic installation marks the opening of the cathedral's latest summer exhibition, 'Monsters of the Sea', sponsored by ARU Peterborough, which launched on July 15 and runs through to September 2024.

Stretching skyward, the whimsical yet striking tentacles strike a surreal contrast against the historic backdrop of the cathedral.

“The intention was always to create a splash for our new exhibition, but witnessing these enormous tentacles towering over our Norman arch is beyond what we imagined," said Paul Stainton, head of marketing and communications

The sudden and spectacular appearance of the inflatable tentacles serves as a dramatic prelude to the fascinating exhibits that can be explored inside the exhibition.

Visitors can expect a rich array of ocean dwelling creatures past and present, from ammonites to the giants of the deep, along with interactive displays and educational activities.

The exhibition opens on Monday, July 15 and tickets can be brought online in advance or on the door.
