An abandoned Land Rover was seized by police in Peterborough after it was found to have been stolen.

While carrying out unrelated enquiries, officers noticed the vehicle that, they say, "didn’t look quite right", in Stagsden, Orton Goldhay.

The rear number plate was being held on by the rear window wiper and was covered in leaves and dirt.

As police were looking into it, they were approached by the public who expressed their frustrations as the car had been abandoned there for months.

Their suspicions were confirmed when the vehicle check resulted in conflicting answers.

The number plate showed a Peterborough address, but the VIN showed the car as being stolen from Lincolnshire.

The car has since been recovered, and several residents have thanked police for sorting it out.
