Leonie Hatcher, who works at the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, writes about her experience at this year's Peterborough Pride event.
She says she wants to thank the community of Peterborough for the brilliant celebration of diversity, inclusion and love.
"I had the incredible opportunity to attend Peterborough Pride for the first time, representing Sue Ryder. It was an amazing experience that left a lasting impression on me, and I am eager to share my reflections on this remarkable event.
"From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the vibrant atmosphere and the palpable sense of community. Peterborough Pride was a magnificent celebration of diversity, inclusion, and love.
"It was heartwarming to see people from all walks of life come together, united by a common purpose: to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community.
Sue Ryder supports and celebrates its LGBTQ+ staff, volunteers, and supporters not only through Pride month but all year round. The charity is committed to providing compassionate care and support, and it was inspiring to see this same spirit of care and support reflected in the Pride celebrations.
"I had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people and hearing the stories of those who have fought for the right to safely be their authentic selves.
"The sense of belonging and solidarity was overwhelming, and it was clear that Peterborough Pride is not just an event, but a vital part of the community's fabric.
"The colourful parade, and lively performances all contributed to the atmosphere. It was a day filled with laughter, music, and dancing, but also moments of reflection and gratitude for the progress that has been made, and a reminder of the work that still lies ahead.
"Peterborough Pride is one of many events our staff and volunteers are attending across the country as we take the opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made as an organisation over the past year too.
This June we also celebrate the launch of our Rainbow Badge initiative with more than 1,350 colleagues having received their badge so far showing our colleagues, volunteers, service users, and their families that Sue Ryder is a welcoming and safe place for LGBTQ+ people.
"Once again, thank you Pride Peterborough for such a spectacular day and I will see you again next year!"
