Several homes were evacuated after a water main burst and caused "significant" damage to a busy road in Peterborough.
The city council said the damage in the Lincoln Road area of Werrington has caused flooding between David's Lane down to the mini roundabout with the Cock Inn pub.
A spokesperson for Peterborough City Council said last night: "About 20 homes have been affected, with some having to be affected.
"The road is expected to be closed until at least the morning."
As of last night, police were advising people to "please avoid the area".
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: "We’ll need to continue repairing the road for the next few days."
