A team of 11 boys who play for the Hampton Rangers U10’s team travelled to Holland to play in the Maastricht Trophy.
The team was picked to represent England in the opening ceremony, along with teams from France, Holland, Germany and the Netherlands in the tournament which took place on May 18/19.
Due to the age groupings in the tournament, the boys played teams a year older from across Europe.
This never seemed to phase them or their team spirit. Adapting well to having to play the unusual formation of 8v8.
They continued to find goals and defended strongly when needed. With Stanley Webb aka the ‘brick wall’ in goal and some solid passing across the pitch the goals went in their favour.
They battled in match’s across the two days in difficult conditions, even having to stop play for a full on thunderstorm.
Spirits were kept high with all the fantastic support from parents and coaching squad who travelled with them and with a little help from our newly adopted team song Pedro.
The team reached the finals and played a local Maastricht team. The support was strong from all the parents and families. The boys were victorious in a 2-1 win, with goals from Will Buckingham and Leo Beanland.
Hampton Rangers U10’s returned home Maastricht Trophy Europa league winners which is a fantastic recognition of their work and determination.
Special thanks need to go to the coaching team Tony Webb, Mark Salt and Lee Dean whose training support, guidance and direction certainly paid off.
INFO: The team is looking for sponsorship next season and will offer logos on the team's kit. Contact Mark Salt via the club's Facebook page which is Hampton Rangers Football Club.
