The North West Anglia Foundation Trust has confirmed that mums-to-be in Peterborough City Hospital will be able to use gas and air once more.
The pain relief had been suspended in 2023 from maternity wards at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, in Huntingdon.
The NHS Trust took the decision to suspend gas and air from maternity wards in two of its hospitals over ventilation issues that meant that the use of Entonox (nitrous oxide and oxygen) was a risk to staff.
However, in a statement released on January 19, 2024, a spokesperson for the North West Anglia Foundation Trust said:
"We are really pleased to inform you that we have been able to safely reintroduce gas and air to our maternity units at Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospital."

New measures have been implemented at Peterborough City Hospital to make sure that gas and air is safe for use.
Mobile Scavenger Units have been introduced to the Peterborough City Hospital delivery suite.
The Scavenger Units extract gas and air once its been inhaled, meaning that everyone in the delivery suite will stay in safe environmental Entonox levels.
