Peterborough’s families in need received their share of 300 Christmas hampers from leading fashion retailer Yours Clothing and children’s charity Barnardo’s.
The hampers brought food to families that need it the most ahead of Christmas morning.
A team built up by Yours Clothing’s head office and warehouse teams packed the 300 Christmas hampers at the retailer’s headquarters by Thursday, December 22, ready to be delivered throughout the city that evening.
The “ambitious” schedule had an extensive list of helpers including Barnardo’s colleagues who ensured the 300 boxes were delivered on time to the families that Barnardo’s selected.
Kay Clay, HR director at Yours Clothing, explained that Peterborough is their home as a business, it being where the business was originally founded, so it’s “very close to our hearts”.
“This year, we were drawn to the great work Barnardo’s is doing here which is transforming the lives of families both in the region and around the country.
“We can’t think of any better cause to contribute to, especially at a time when so many local families will be struggling the most.”
The hampers contained more than 90 different items, ranging from a full Christmas dinner that included turkey with all the trimmings, festive foods like minced pies and selection boxes to household essentials.
They were designed with Christmas specifics and household essential to help families who struggling with the rising costs of living by making sure their basic needs are met over the Christmas period alongside some typical Christmas extras we like to enjoy over the festive period.
Strategic children’s services manager at Barnardo's, Lynn Mcnish, said: “The contributions made by the team at Yours has helped us take our outreach to new heights,”
“We’re thrilled to be able to give families something really substantial that takes financial pressure off them at the time of year they’ll be most stretched.
“Right now, 3.9 million children are living in poverty in the UK. That's about eight children in every classroom.
“And the cost-of-living crisis is getting worse and more frightening every day.
Lynn also adds that they hope this “small gesture has a lasting impact.”
