A group of mums will be walking 12 miles around Peterborough this weekend to help give families fleeing domestic violence a Christmas to remember.
Their goal is to raise £3,000 for Peterborough Women’s Aid – and the team’s joint fundraising efforts have already secured 75 per cent of the target.
Georgia Jones, who will be walking on Saturday (December 3) with the group, said: “As a mum myself, to hear what some of these families have been through is heart breaking.
“Many are forced to flee their homes quickly with just their children and a small bag. They have nothing and really do have to start over again.
“All of us taking part in the walk want to help try and make Christmas a little bit better for them this year.
“We aim to completely smash our target, so if anyone does have it in their hearts to sponsor us, please visit our JustGiving page.”

He encouraged his social media followers to carry out good deeds for 24 hours.
The good deeds that were carried out ranged from helping the homeless in London to supporting dog shelters.
Georgia, from Peterborough, and a group of her friends, chose to help Women’s Aid Peterborough.
She said: “We started with buying a few soaps and toiletries at Wilkinsons.
“When people heard what we were doing, the donations coming through were incredible.
“We were being given clothes, wash items, toys for the children...
“The generosity of people, especially during these hard times, was overwhelming and the lady collecting everything needed a couple more cars to transport it all.”
When Georgia and her friends heard more about the charity’s work, they wanted to do more to help.
For example, they learned how domestic abuse will affect one in four women and leads to two women being murdered each week in the UK.
Saturday’s walk is anticipated to take around four hours. It is anticipated there will up to 15 walkers of varying experience.
They will start at Peterborough Cathedral, and walk around Ferry Meadows twice. It will end at Charters Bar, at Town Bridge.
Their other halves and families will be supporting them by providing food, refreshments and moral support.
Anyone is welcome to join the group for the last mile, which they anticipate to reach between 4pm and 5pm.
To sponsor, visit the group’s JustGiving page.
