Peterborough City Council is inviting residents who are struggling with rising living costs to new community hubs across the city.
The city council has commissioned the community-run hubs using money from the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund.
This forms part of several measures to help struggling people make ends meet in Peterborough.
The 10 hubs currently in Peterborough are there to provide vital support and everyday essentials in the Millfield, Bretton, Central, Ravensthorpe, Stanground and Hampton areas.
The council is hoping that more hubs will open up before Wednesday 23 November when all current hubs officially open.
Anyone seeking support can get help at these hubs in recognition that everyone is affected by the cost-of-living crisis.
Many local organisations are involved in the scheme such as Bretton Baptist Church, Bretton Gladstone Park Community Centre and the Hampton Faizan-E-Madinah Mosque hub.
Councillor Steve Allen, deputy leader and cabinet member for communication, culture and communities, said: “We are fully committed to doing everything we can to help those most in need.
"I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done so far, but we never rest on our laurels, which is why we are partnering with local organisations providing cost of living support, as we move into winter so that their work goes further.
"If you are struggling right now, then please consider visiting your local hub and don’t forget we are continuing to offer several other support schemes.
“These are unprecedented times and everyone is affected by this crisis so please consider getting involved in your local hub, by seeing what's on offer or by volunteering.”
Peterborough City Council also helping with other aspects of the cost-of-living crisis by continuing to run and promote other support schemes for residents.
Several of these are focussed on helping those struggling to pay for energy bulls including the Local Energy Advice Partnership, or LEAP.
The scheme includes free of charge in-home energy support and advice including the installation of energy saving measures.
This is alongside free school meals for families continuing through the Christmas holidays.
