Dementia patients at Peterborough City Hospital are in for £1,500 of upgrades to their wellbeing after a donation came from some crafty quilters.
The £1,500 was raised through a raffle and tutor fees from the Fitzwilliam Quilters and their Saturday workshops.
The hospital has decided some of the money will upgrade the ward’s “distraction boxes” while the rest will be allocated at a later date.
The distraction boxes contain adult colouring books, quiz books, sensory objects and more which are used to distract and redirect the emotions of dementia patients having a difficult time in hospital.
Dementia nurse specialist, Alison Gray said: “We are hugely grateful to the Fitzwilliam Quilters for their generous donation which will be make a huge difference for our patients living with dementia.”
Treasurer for the Fitzwilliam Quilters, Jo Hemingray, said: “Our members have requested that the entire donation be used for the dementia patients at Peterborough City Hospital, for the benefit and wellbeing of patients being treated and cared for within the department.”
