Peterborough Cathedral reopened for visitors in July, and the 900-year-old building has since reopened its gift shop too.

Staff shared a photo of one of their first customers on Facebook yesterday to remind people that their shop was open again.

With masks and social distancing in place, they wrote: "It's lovely to welcome customers back into the Cathedral Shop, which has now reopened."

A spokesperson for the Cathedral said: "It is great to have the shop open again as visitors often want to buy something to remember their visit.

"As we gradually move towards the Christmas shopping season, we have big plans for introducing some exciting new items, unique to the Cathedral, which will be on sale both online and in the shop on site."

At the time of reopening the main building, a spokesperson for the Cathedral said: "A one-way system will be in place and visitors will be asked to sanitise their hands on arrival and on exit. Social distancing at 2m will be expected and for this reason the small side chapels will remain closed.

"People will be invited to leave their contact details for ‘track and trace’ purposes, in line with Government advice."

They added: "There is no entry charge but visitors are asked to make a donation to support the Cathedral and its work.

"It will be open to visitors from 10am until 4pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 11.30am until 4pm on Sundays."
