As Peterborough residents prepare for the clocks to go back and the evenings start to get darker, the Household Recycling Centre is getting ready for its winter timings.

The Household Recycling Centre based in Fengate has confirmed, winter timings will begin from October 1.

From Friday, visitors can use the facility between 8am to 4pm every day until March 31- adding that it will be closed for the public on Boxing Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Covid-19 rules are still in place, meaning that residents should only visit the Household Recycling Centre if it is essential and waste cannot be minimised or stored at home safely. Social distancing measures are in place, only 14 cars are allowed on site at every time, and staff will be unable to help people unload vehicles.

All materials are accepted as normal, except the centre cannot accept waste that may be infected with Covid-19. This includes disposed PPE waste or general household waste from a household where someone has had Covid symptoms.

Waste of this description should be double-bagged, tied securely and kept separate from other waste - as well as quarantined for 72 hours before being disposed.

The gates close 10 minutes before closing time to allow all vehicles to have entered the site, unloaded their waste and left by closing time.

Proof of address should be taken to the centre and those visiting the site with a van or trailer must book a slot before visiting. Visit here to book a slot.
