Throughout the summer holidays, the charity Light House Community Group CIO, which manages the East Community Centre in Peterborough, ran a number of free activities for children, including free lunches for all children attending.

The final craft session of the summer had an emergency services theme and the charity’s events coordinator Kimberly Lavery said: “I really enjoy organising activities and events for children and find the children really enjoy sessions with a theme.

“For our final session of the summer, I invited officers from the Eastern Region Neighbourhood Policing Team, who were only too happy to oblige.

“The officers spoke to the children and their parents/carers about what they do, and telling us all about the kit they carry with them.

“From crime scene tape to shields, acid kits to first aid kits, rope lines to fire extinguishers, evidence bags to knife collection tubes and more.

“It was fascinating to hear about the diversity of the work they do and we would like to thank them all for their service to the public to keep us all safe.

“The children all enjoyed exploring the police car after the talk. After taking some questions from the children and their parents/carers we then moved inside for our emergency services themed craft session.

“It was really lovely to see how engaged all of the children and their parents/carers were with making their emergency service-themed crafts”.
