Residents at a Peterborough care home were gifted hand-painted vases filled with daffodils in celebration of Mother’s Day.

As well as many visits from families and friends, the ladies at Longueville Court Care Home, which is run by Barchester Healthcare, were invited to join in an afternoon tea celebration.

In the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day residents, supported by members of the activities team, met regularly to create 60 individual glass vases.

These were made using recycled jars and a variety of techniques to decorate, based on the skills residents brought to the table.

These included paint daubing, glass painting and marbling, they were later embellished with glitter and ribbons ready for presentation.

Residents Ruby and Norman, who were involved in the gift preparation, visited the ladies of Longueville Court on Mothering Sunday to deliver the vases which were filled with beautiful daffodils.

These were welcomed with big smiles and many compliments were paid, with "lovely", "thank you" and "beautiful" frequently among them.

Family members visiting the home also thanked all those involved.

General manager Bheki Perelion said: “We all had a really lovely day. This unique crafting activity brought together so many individuals to create personalised vases and put smiles on so many faces.

“The delicious afternoon tea organised by the activities team and prepared by our brilliant chefs rounded off such a special day.”
